Walker-Battiste Endowment
Created by Julia (University of South Carolina - Honors College, Class of ‘71) this endowment fund supports the University of South Carolina Center for Civil Rights History and Research and is named for Harry Walker and Luther Battiste III in recognition of their historic contribution to University leadership and African American Studies.
Harry L. Walker was elected the first black President of the student body of the university - an historic win. Luther Battiste III served as the campaign manager for Harry as well as lobbied and co-authored the proposal for the University's African American Studies Program.
